Thailand Makes History Hosting 2026 IMF-WBG Meetings, Releases "Bangkok Dialogue Notes" to Champion "Trusted Connector" Role

On October 17, 2026, at 2:00 PM at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center, Dr. Ekniti Nitithanprapas, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, unveiled the "Bangkok Dialogue Notes." The document gathers reflections and perspectives that Thailand contributed to the global dialogue as the host, inviting the world to reflect on Thailand's role as a "Trusted Connector."
Dr. Ekniti highlighted that the world is simultaneously facing multiple transformations, including geopolitical conflicts, rapid technological advancements, climate change, and demographic shifts. However, the challenge is not merely fragmentation between countries; there are also significant opportunity gaps within nations between those who benefit and those unable to adapt. Large businesses may access new technologies and markets faster than SMEs, while some communities still lack the tools needed to seize opportunities in a changing economy.
"True resilience comes not from isolation, but from trusted connections that help give people more options," Dr. Ekniti stated. "The question is therefore not simply whether countries should become more open or more self-reliant, but how we build connections with the world that genuinely strengthen our economies and our people."
The "Bangkok Dialogue Notes" therefore present 5 key reflections:
•    Resilience must begin with helping people cope and adapt.
•    Building international trust requires citizens to see visible benefits and participate.
•    The success of investment and technology must be measured by the upgraded skills of local people and businesses.
•    Practical cooperation on specific issues helps strengthen the multilateral system.
•    Middle powers can act as vital connectors in partnership with international financial institutions.
These reflections lead to practical actions through four strategic pillars: focusing on trusted digital technology and AI that everyone can use; supporting trade and investment that increase options and build local capacity; driving a green economy that distributes funding to those needing to adapt; and turning longevity into an opportunity accompanied by security.
To connect global discussions with practical experience, Thailand featured the Royal Pavilion to share development approaches based on the royal initiatives and the Sufficiency Economy Philosophy of King Rama IX. This highlights that sustainable development must be people-centered and firmly rooted in a true understanding of the local context.
Dr. Ekniti concluded, "Thailand's role in the 2026 IMF-WBG Annual Meetings goes beyond being a good host. We have invited the world to reflect, shared lessons from each country's experience, and jointly proposed ways to tackle economic and social challenges. What matters next is connecting cooperation from the regional to the global level, from the global level to individual countries, and from countries to the resilience of communities and people."
