Thailand Builds on IMF–World Bank Momentum to Target 5 Key Markets with Wellness and Soft Power
The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is turning the momentum from the 2026 IMF–World Bank Annual Meetings into new opportunities by targeting five high-potential tourism markets. The move follows a new policy from Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce Suphajee Suthumpun.
The policy calls for close cooperation between the Ministry of Commerce, the Ministry of Culture, and the Ministry of Tourism and Sports. The goal is to link Thai products and soft power directly with tourism. In response, TAT is building its strategy around wellness tourism, cultural assets, and sustainable growth, so that tourism revenue reaches local communities.
To encourage delegates to stay longer, TAT and the Association of Thai Travel Agents (ATTA) launched seven routes in Bangkok and 20 regional tours to destinations such as Pattaya, Hua Hin, and Nakhon Ratchasima. The tours feature wellness experiences under the theme "Healing is the New Luxury," along with Thai cuisine, textiles, traditional arts, and eco-friendly exhibitions.
Looking ahead, TAT is tailoring its approach to each of these five key markets:
● Vietnam: family travel and shopping
● Malaysia: food, shopping, and secondary cities
● Indonesia: wellness and Muslim-friendly travel
● Singapore: high-spending travelers
● Taiwan: culinary tourism
TAT will also run the "Go Thai Be Free" campaign to reinforce Thailand's position as an LGBTQ+-friendly destination. For fiscal year 2027, TAT aims to boost ASEAN arrivals by 4.3 percent and tourism revenue by 6.2 percent, ensuring long-term economic gains across the nation.
Through these coordinated efforts, Thailand is set to turn international event momentum into lasting economic value and sustainable regional tourism growth.
