Thailand and Singapore have agreed to explore new areas of cooperation, such as food and energy security, digital economy, green economy, and carbon credit trading collaboration.
The issue was discussed on 28 November 2024, when Mr. Lawrence Wong, Prime Minister of the Republic of Singapore, paid an official visit to Thailand. This marked the first visit by a foreign leader to Thailand under Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra's tenure.
Upon his arrival at Government House in Bangkok, the Prime Minister of Singapore attended an official welcoming ceremony and held a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Paetongtarn.
During the meeting, both prime ministers emphasized the importance of long-standing ties and close cooperation in many areas. As the two countries will commemorate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations in 2025, there will be high-level exchanges throughout the year.
In this regard, the Prime Minister of Singapore also extended an invitation to Prime Minister Paetongtarn to make an official visit to Singapore, and the Thai Prime Minister also extended an invitation to the President of Singapore to make an official visit to Thailand.
Both sides also discussed ways to expand cooperation in many areas, such as trade and investment, linkages of financial, banking, and capital market systems, as well as security and the defense industry. They exchanged views on significant regional issues, such as situation in Myanmar, drug trafficking, and online scams.
During the visit, the Thai and Singaporean Prime Ministers witnessed the signing of the MOU on Cooperation between the Office of the Civil Service Commission of the Kingdom of Thailand and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Singapore, which will encourage more educational cooperation and provide scholarships to Thai civil servants.
On this occasion, His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua and Her Majesty Queen Suthida Bajrasudhabimalalakshana graciously granted the Prime Minister of the Republic of Singapore and ้his spouse a royal audience at the Ambara Villa, Dusit Palace.
