According to a report from the Department of Foreign Trade, Thai rice exports reached 9.95 million tons in 2024, valued at 225,656 million baht (6.69 billion US dollars), increasing 13% in volume from the previous year and the highest number in six years.
Thailand’s five biggest export markets were Indonesia, which imported 1.33 million tons, followed by Iraq (1 million tons), the U.S.A. (0.85 million tons), South Africa (0.83 million tons), and the Philippines (0.62 million tons).
The largest exported type was white rice (5.99 million tons), followed by Thai Hom Mali rice (1.74 million tons), parboiled rice (1.27 million tons), Thai fragrant rice (0.63 million tons), white glutinous rice (0.30 million tons), and brown rice (0.02 million tons).
The Department of Foreign Trade and the Thai Rice Exporters Association expect that Thai rice exports in 2025 will reach 7.5 million tons, as a consequence of the higher rice exports from India and the decline of drought, causing an increase in the number of exporters.
