Thai agricultural products have emerged as the leading export products in the ASEAN region and ranked eighth globally, with export values exceeding 430 billion baht during the first eight months of 2024. This represents an 8% increase from the previous year, highlighting the global recognition of "Made in Thailand" agricultural goods and their penetration into key FTA partner markets such as China, ASEAN, Japan, and South Korea, which collectively account for 69% of total exports.
The primary agricultural exports include fresh, chilled and frozen fruits, rice, rubber, chicken, and cassava. Notably, demand in FTA markets surged significantly in August, with China and Japan growing by 11%, India by 24%, and Chile by an impressive 42.8%. The FTA agreements with 18 countries have provided Thailand with tax advantages on major agricultural products, facilitating freer exports or tax reductions in several key markets.
Thailand is poised to lead agricultural exports in ASEAN while targeting a position among the top five exporters globally. This ambition is supported by government initiatives and market expansion through critical global FTA agreements. This success presents a vital opportunity for Thai entrepreneurs to enhance their international reputation and expand their businesses.
