Summary of the Press Conference from the Ad Hoc Centre for Thailand-Cambodia Border Situation, 30 July 2025, 12.00 hr
1. Violations of the Ceasefire Agreement
The Thai side has formally protested, in writing, to the Foreign Minister of Malaysia, as ASEAN Chair, as well as to the observer countries being China and United States who attended and witnessed the agreement on a ceasefire, to register Cambodia’s breaches of the ceasefire on 29 July. A letter was also sent to the Cambodian side themselves, regarding this matter.
We are gravely concerned that, as of last night, more armed attacks, namely small arms fire and grenade attacks, by the Cambodian side have continued. In addition to the statement of facts shared by the Thai Army this morning, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also, once again, called on Cambodia to strictly adhere to the terms of the ceasefire. This is so that we avoid further losses especially after we have already agreed to ceasefire. With regard to what the representative of Ministry of Public Health just brief in relation to severe damage sustain by hospital in Thailand including the necessary disclose one of those hospital, we will be sending these update to follow the letter we have already send to ICRC pertaining to our protest of the violation of international humanitarian law.
2.The role of Thai Embassies/Missions/Consulates
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also updated the Ad Hoc Centre meeting this morning, that during this ongoing situation, Royal Thai Embassies and Consulates-General, on all continents around the world, are playing a proactive role in providing factual updates on the Thailand-Cambodia border situation within their areas of responsibility, both where they are based, and governments within their jurisdiction.
Active communications by our Embassies and Consulates ensure that Thailand’s situation, which includes information on what is happening on the ground and our principled positions that we have always upheld, reach the governments, organisations and agencies, local media, and even Thai communities in those countries.
We are fighting against fake news and it is our duty to ensure access to accurate information, and prevent further misinformation and disinformation.
Again our aim is to ensure, ultimately, that the international community not only understands Thailand’s principled position, but continues to support it, especially our commitment to resolving tensions peacefully, through bilateral negotiations in good faith, as neighbours should.
In addition, Thailand’s Permanent Missions abroad, including those accredited to the four main UN offices, to ASEAN, and the Embassies whose responsibilities cover international frameworks and organisations, have also been actively conveying Thailand’s position to the world, specifically under the various treaty body that are involve and to highlight our constructive role and unwavering commitment to our international obligations.
