Prime Minister Stresses Smooth Arrangements for the 2026 IMF-World Bank Group Annual Meetings
Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has instructed all relevant agencies to ensure smooth arrangements for participants in the upcoming 2026 Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Group.
On 5 October 2026, the Prime Minister chaired a meeting on preparations for the 2026 IMF-World Bank Group Annual Meetings, which will be held at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center (QSNCC) in Bangkok from 12 to 18 October.
He stated that hosting this event should be used as an opportunity to maximize benefits from the presence of world leaders and delegates visiting Thailand. This includes building confidence, expanding economic and investment opportunities, generating revenue for the business and service sectors, and showcasing Thailand's potential to the international community, thereby creating economic value and delivering direct benefits to the public.
The Prime Minister urged the expedited resolution of urgent issues regarding the facilitation of meeting participants, particularly visas for international attendees, to ensure a smooth journey to the meetings. Progress on venue preparation and facilitation has reportedly continued steadily. QSNCC has prepared meeting rooms and relevant spaces in accordance with the requirements and standards of the IMF and World Bank.
In addition, a comprehensive logistics system has been established to accommodate VIPs and attendees, seamlessly linking travel between airports, QSNCC, and official hotels to ensure that all travel and participation in various activities are convenient and efficient.
The meeting acknowledged the key schedule for the 2026 IMF-World Bank Group Annual Meetings: 1) the opening ceremony of the Thailand Pavilion on 12 October at QSNCC, 2) a welcoming dinner hosted by the Prime Minister on 14 October at Government House, 3) the Thai identity cultural performance on 15 October at QSNCC and 4) the Plenary Session of the Boards of Governors of the World Bank Group and IMF on 16 October at QSNCC.
During the meetings, Thailand plans to host high-level events under the theme “Thailand’s New Horizons: Empowering People, Building Resilience,” covering four key pillars:
• Digital and AI transition for inclusive and resilient growth.
• Opportunities for middle powers in a fragmented/multipolar world.
• Building a new architecture to support climate change adaptation.
• Promoting the silver economy to address demographic shifts and an aging society.
Moreover, the forum "Building Resilience in a Fragmented World" will be held to discuss ways to build economic resilience amid the challenges of global polarization. Another key session, "Financing a Resilient Green Economy," will explore financial approaches to support the green transition and climate change adaptation, while expanding access to funding sources for businesses, communities, and households.
