The Public Relations Department (PRD) successfully organized the "Southern Charm Soft Power" music festival, which took place at the Tapi River Walking Street Market in Surat Thani. Spearheaded by the Public Relations Office Region 5 and Surat Thani Municipality under the Fiscal Year 2026 Soft Power Media Project (Music Category), the initiative aimed to elevate southern musical heritage into a creative economy driver and stimulate grassroots tourism.
Mr. Supaphong Chaolan, Deputy Director-General of the PRD, presided over the opening ceremony on May 30, 2026, alongside Mr. Suchao Thumosik, Mueang Surat Thani District Chief, Mr. Prasert Boonprasop, Mayor of Surat Thani City, and Mr. Sopon Kiamkarn, Director of the Public Relations Office Region 5 and Ms. Thanawan Chumsaeng, Surat Thani Provincial Public Relations Officer. The event aligns with national policies to maximize cultural capital across food, arts, tourism, and music to boost global competitiveness.
The festival provided a high-profile platform for local artists and creators to showcase the unique cultural identity of Southern Thailand. The concert featured top regional talents, including Phatthalung Band, Gam The Star, Ratchanok Srilophan, Ko Kai, and ATK Band. This collaborative showcase highlights Surat Thani’s robust potential in leveraging its rich traditions and local folklore to foster sustainable cultural tourism and generate community income.
