PRD and MCOT to Highlight Thailand’s Gains from 2026 IMF–WBG Meetings
Minister Attached to the Prime Minister’s Office Supamas Isarabhakdi said on 17 October 2026 that she had instructed the Government Public Relations Department (PRD) and MCOT Public Company Limited to jointly expand public communication on the 2026 IMF–World Bank Group Annual Meetings. The aim is to help people understand how the global economic issues under discussion relate to their daily lives and how Thailand can translate emerging opportunities into investment, job creation, and higher incomes.
Ms. Supamas said the meetings, held from 12 to 18 October 2026 at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center in Bangkok, mark Thailand’s return as host after 35 years. Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul delivered the opening address at the plenary session on 16 October, providing Thailand with an opportunity to demonstrate its capabilities and present its development priorities to global economic and financial leaders, while building partnerships for future economic changes.
The key issues to communicate to the public include attracting investment in digital technology and artificial intelligence (AI) alongside developing Thai workforce skills; mobilizing finance for the green economy and clean energy; and strengthening trade and investment cooperation. These are among the major topics Thailand presented and discussed during the meetings. Coverage should connect these issues to practical concerns – such as necessary workforce skills, the adaptation of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and business opportunities in emerging industries – to help people make informed career and business decisions.
Ms. Supamas added that she had directed both organizations to use information from the Ministry of Finance, the Bank of Thailand and other relevant agencies to produce accurate, concise, and accessible content in Thai and English. News reports, interviews, infographics, short videos, and special programs will be distributed through radio, television, online platforms and regional networks to reach the public, businesses, and foreign investors. Coverage will also showcase Thailand’s economic and tourism potential and its capabilities as a host.
Both organizations have also been instructed to continue tracking the progress and outcomes of their cooperation. Reporting should clearly explain the opportunities, benefits, and steps involved, keeping the public informed and helping them understand the connection between economic policy and improvements in quality of life.
“What we need to communicate clearly is what Thai people gain from hosting these meetings, along with how businesses can build on the opportunities. Moreover, we must highlight what skills workers should develop to prepare for new investment. I have therefore instructed PRD and MCOT to make complex economic issues easy to understand, use accurate information, and provide consistent updates, so that people can access information they can put to practical use and share a sense of pride in Thailand’s capabilities,” Ms. Supamas said.
