Muay Thai Masterclass 2025 Generates 3.2 Billion Baht in Global Economic Value

The Office of the Boxing Commission (OBC), under the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT), has concluded the Muay Thai Masterclass 2025 project with its final event held in Melbourne, Australia, from October 24 to 26. The event marked the tenth and final destination of the global roadshow, which successfully generated more than 3.2 billion baht in total economic value for Thailand.

The final event in Australia exceeded expectations, drawing 474 registered participants, surpassing the initial target of 300. The activities in Australia alone contributed over 317 million baht in direct and indirect economic value.

The masterclass featured comprehensive training sessions focused on traditional Muay Thai techniques, including punches, kicks, knees, elbows, and self-defence methods. Participants also learned the Wai Khru Muay Thai ceremony, an important cultural practice to pay homage to Muay Thai teachers, as well as demonstrations of Muay Boran, the ancient form of Thai boxing.

Throughout 2025, the Muay Thai Masterclass project was conducted across ten countries, showcasing Thailand’s cultural heritage and sporting excellence. The initiative aimed to promote and expand the global base of Muay Thai practitioners, enhance international understanding of Thai culture, and strengthen the reputation of Thailand’s national sport worldwide.

The project successfully achieved its goals of dissemination, promotion, and professional development through direct engagement between Thai instructors and international participants. This exchange fostered greater appreciation of the technical, cultural, and spiritual dimensions of Muay Thai.

In addition to the masterclass sessions, the SAT certified international Muay Thai gyms that met the standards of the OBC. During the final event, 11 Muay Thai camps abroad were officially awarded the Standard Muay Thai Gym (SMG) plaque.

This initiative is expected to continue generating sustainable economic value for Thailand by expanding training opportunities, creating employment for Thai instructors overseas, and enhancing Thailand’s status as the global center of Muay Thai.

The success of the Muay Thai Masterclass 2025 reflects the growing international recognition of Muay Thai as both a sport and a symbol of Thai identity and soft power on the global stage.
