The Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI) has partnered with Times Higher Education (THE) to jointly develop a National Evaluation Framework (NEF) aimed at transforming Thailand’s higher education system. The NEF will serve as a national assessment tool utilizing data analytics to evaluate the performance, capabilities, and areas of expertise of Thai universities. This initiative aligns with the government’s “Reinventing University” policy, promoting efficiency, transparency, and competitiveness within the country’s higher education sector.
Through this collaboration, Thai universities will gain access to international higher education datasets via MHESI’s centralized platform, reducing redundant data submissions and enhancing comparative analysis with global institutions. The framework will also integrate THE’s Impact Ratings model, assessing universities across four key dimensions—Teaching, Research, Stewardship, and Outreach. This approach will help institutions better understand their strengths and identify areas for improvement in line with global standards.
Additionally, MHESI and THE discussed the establishment of the THE–Thailand Awards, a new national recognition program honoring Thai universities with outstanding achievements in specific categories corresponding to THE Awards Asia. This cooperation marks a major milestone in Thailand’s effort to elevate its higher education system through data-driven management and global benchmarking, paving the way for a sustainable and internationally competitive academic ecosystem.
