MHESI Accelerates “Training the Trainers” to Drive AI Transformation in Higher Education

The Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI) is advancing its efforts to transform Thailand’s higher education system through artificial intelligence (AI), launching the “Training the Trainers: Leveraging Artificial Intelligence to Empower Teaching and Learning in Higher Education” program. The initiative was officially opened on April 30 by Prof. Dr. Supachai Pathumnakul, Permanent Secretary of MHESI, with participation from over 150 faculty members and university personnel nationwide.

The program aims to develop a new generation of instructors equipped with AI knowledge and practical teaching capabilities. Prof. Dr. Supachai emphasized that AI is playing an increasingly critical role in both teaching and research. A key priority for MHESI is to systematically integrate AI across all academic programs, starting with strengthening educators’ understanding of both the technology and modern learning design. In parallel, the Ministry is developing platforms to support instructors in incorporating AI into their teaching, while also promoting AIdriven research to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and the overall quality of academic outputs in response to national development goals.

The training, organized in collaboration with the Cyber University Project, combines lectures and hands-on workshops to ensure practical application. According to Ms. Puttachart Wattanawimol, the program is designed to align higher education institutions with MHESI’s strategic direction while building sustainable system-level mechanisms. As global demand for future-ready skills rises, this initiative is expected to play a key role in upgrading Thailand’s education system and preparing a workforce capable of thriving in a digital economy.
