Loy Krathong Event at PRD in Loving Memory of the Queen Mother

The Government Public Relations Department (PRD) is organizing activities to celebrate the Loy Krathong Festival at its headquarters on Soi Ari Samphan, Phahonyothin Road, in Bangkok, in loving memory of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother.

The three-day event, held from 3 to 5 November 2025, is organized under the concept “Loy Krathong in Remembrance of the Mother of the Land.” Minister Attached to the Prime Minister’s Office Supamas Isarabhakdi presided over the opening ceremony on 3 November at 16.30 hr, aiming to preserve Thai cultural heritage and elevate the festival to international recognition.

The opening ceremony was attended by Mr. Zhang Jianwei, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Thailand; Mr. Monthien Charoenpol, (มณเฑียร เจริญผล) Auditor General; Mr. Teerawut Klanliang (ธีรวุฒิ กลั่นเลี้ยง), Advisor to the Office of the Permanent Secretary, Prime Minister’s Office; and Mrs. Sudruetai Lertkasem (สุดฤทัย เลิศเกษม), PRD Director-General.

On this occasion, Ambassador Zhang Jianwei delivered remarks expressing his appreciation and honor to participate in this year’s Loy Krathong celebration, which marked his first attendance at PRD in his assumed position as Chinese Ambassador to Thailand. He extended his admiration for Thailand’s cultural richness and highlighted the shared values of harmony, gratitude, and respect for nature reflected in the festival. Ambassador Zhang also emphasized that cultural exchange and participation in traditional events such as Loy Krathong further strengthen the long-standing friendship and close relations between China and Thailand.

Ms. Supamas stated that Loy Krathong underlines the values of rivers and natural resources while providing an opportunity for families and communities to gather in celebration. The festival reflects the deep and enduring bond between the Thai people and waterways.

She commended participants in the Loy Krathong event at PRD for wearing traditional Thai costumes, demonstrating pride in Thai cultural identity. She also encouraged celebrants to use krathong made from natural materials to help reduce environmental impact and protect water resources.

The Loy Krathong event at PRD also features cultural performances, a krathong contest, a community market, and waste-free activities.

Loy Krathong takes place on the full moon night of the 12th lunar month, which this year falls on 5 November. The festival continues to play an important role in raising environmental awareness and appreciation for Thailand’s rivers and canals.

As Thailand remains in the period of mourning, the Government has instructed all provinces to ensure that Loy Krathong celebrations across the nation are held in a respectful and appropriate manner to honor the memory of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother.
