Loy Krathong Event at PRD in Loving Memory of the Queen Mother

The Government Public Relations Department (PRD) is organizing activities to celebrate Loy Krathong Festival at its headquarters on Soi Ari Samphan, Phahonyothin Road, in Bangkok, in loving memory of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother.

The three-day event, scheduled for 3-5 November 2025, is held under the concept “Loy Krathong in Remembrance of the Mother of the Land.” Minister Attached to the Prime Minister’s Office Supamas Isarabhakdi on 3 November at 16.30 hr presided over the opening of Loy Krathong at PRD, aimed at preserving Thai culture and upgrading this festival as a world event.

The opening ceremony was joined by Mr. Zhang Jianwei, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Thailand, Mr. Monthien Charoenpol, Auditor General, Mr. Teerawut Klanliang. Advisor to the Office of the Permanent Secretary, Prime Minister’s Office, and Mrs. Sudruetai Lertkasem, PRD Director-General.

Ms. Supamas stated that Loy Krathong underlines the values of rivers and natural resources, and it provides the opportunity for family and community members to carry out activities together. This festival reflects the longstanding bond between Thai people and waterways.

She commended participants in the Loy Krathong event at PRD for wearing traditional Thai costumes, which showed their pride in Thai cultural identity. Ms. Supamas also urged Loy Krathong celebrants to use krathong made from natural materials in order to reduce environmental impact and protect water resources.

The Loy Krathong event at PRD also features cultural performances, a krathong contest, a community market, and waste-free activities.

Loi Krathong takes place on the full moon night of the 12th lunar month, which this year falls on 5 November. The festival is also significant to society, as it encourages people to care for the environment and creates awareness on the importance of rivers and canals.

Since Thailand is in the period of mourning, all provinces nationwide have been told by the Government to ensure that the arrangements of Loy Krathong activities would be carried out appropriately, as a mark of respect, following the passing of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother.
