Khorat UNESCO Global Geopark and Khon Kaen Geopark Participated in the ICPSEA 2025

The Khorat UNESCO Global Geopark and Khon Kaen Geopark jointly presented at the ICPSEA 2025 – The 4th International Conference on Palaeontology of Southeast Asia, organized by the Palaeontological Research and Education Centre (PRC), Mahasarakham University. The conference was held from 22–27 November 2025 at Mahasarakham University and Satun UNESCO Global Geopark.

The participation of these two UNESCO Global Geoparks highlights Thailand’s strong research capacity in geoscience and palaeontology, particularly within nationally and internationally significant geological sites. The presented works included:

 


Khorat UNESCO Global Geopark

 • Poster Presentation: Pothole development and structural controls in the Phu Phan Sandstones of the Sikhiu Historical Quarry by Phornnaphan Nitjorhor

 


Khon Kaen Geopark

 • Oral Presentation: Carcharodontosauria (Dinosauria: Theropoda) roamed Asia during the Early Cretaceous, with a focus on new material from the Sao Khua Formation in Thailand by Kridsanupong Puntanon

 • Poster Presentation: A new sauropod dinosaur from Huai Pratu Tee Ma, the Early Cretaceous Sao Khua Formation, Khon Kaen Geopark by Kridsanupong Puntanon

 • Poster Presentation: Tooth morphology of theropod dinosaurs from the Early Cretaceous Sao Khua Formation in Phu Wiang Mountain, Khon Kaen Geopark by Htay Min Aung Paing

 • Poster Presentation: The biodiversity of the Late Triassic, Huai Hin Lat Formation, Thailand by Krishna Sutcha
