Joint Information Center Rejects Unverified Bomb Claim

The Joint Information Center on the Thailand-Cambodia Situation (JIC) has rejected claims that images circulating online of an object resembling an aerial bomb prove it was dropped by the Royal Thai Air Force, saying such conclusions cannot be reached without a technical and forensic examination. The statement was issued in response to reports linking the object to an alleged airstrike.

Officials said the object shown in the images appears to resemble either an MK-84 series bomb or an older M118 model. They added that the Thai Air Force uses battle damage assessment systems, advanced imaging technology, and weapon-release recording systems on its F-16 and Gripen aircraft, with mission records confirming that bombs struck their intended military targets and detonated as planned.

Authorities said determining the origin of any recovered munition requires examination of manufacturing serial numbers, components, chain-of-custody records, and other forensic evidence. They also said bombs that function normally typically detonate or sustain extensive damage on impact, making it uncommon for them to remain largely intact unless they are unexploded ordnance, which would also require technical analysis.

The JIC urged the public to rely on verifiable evidence rather than photographs or unilateral claims when assessing information related to national security and international relations. The center affirmed that Thailand continues to adhere to international law, humanitarian principles, and the peaceful resolution of disputes, adding that any allegations should be subject to impartial and transparent examination.
