IMF Launches “Shaping the Future of Asia“

🌏 IMF Launches “Shaping the Future of Asia,” Highlighting Three Key Factors Shaping Asia’s Economic Future

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) launched its new book, Shaping the Future of Asia, with opening remarks by Ms. Kristalina Georgieva, IMF Managing Director. The event also brought together senior officials and economic experts to exchange views on the opportunities and challenges shaping Asia’s future.

📌 Three Key Factors Shaping Asia’s Economic Future

🔹 Demographic Change

Asia is experiencing rapid population aging. The IMF highlighted the importance of increasing women's participation in the workforce, encouraging longer working lives, and investing in workforce skills to address changes in the labor market.

🔹 AI and Economic Growth

While artificial intelligence (AI) has the potential to boost productivity and help ease the economic impact of aging populations, unequal access to technology remains a concern. Efforts should focus on ensuring that the benefits of AI are widely shared across society by promoting its use in agriculture, education, and public services, supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and creating quality jobs.

🔹 Regional Economic Integration

Amid growing trade restrictions and geopolitical tensions, Asia needs to strengthen regional economic cooperation, reduce trade barriers, and expand markets within the region. These efforts should go hand in hand with investment, credible policies, and macroeconomic stability.

✨ The IMF noted that Asia is expected to contribute 68% of global economic growth in 2026, underscoring the region’s important role in the global economy.

However, sustaining long-term growth will require adapting to ongoing changes, ensuring that the benefits of technology are widely shared, and strengthening regional cooperation to build a more resilient and sustainable economic future for Asia.
