Her Royal Highness Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya has a firm intention to carry forward the legacy of her royal grandmother, Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother, in developing and promoting Thai textiles as invaluable local wisdom and cultural heritage passed down through generations.
Her Royal Highness initiated the "Fun with Thai Fabrics" project, known in Thai as Pha Thai Sai Hai Sanuk (Wearing Thai Fabric with Fun), aimed at elevating the designs of traditional textiles as items to wear on all occasions for people of all ages. This will enhance their modern appeal and international relevance to meet global market demands, while increasing the value of local community products and creating economic opportunities for local communities, as well.
Her Royal Highness has tasked the working group on the "Fun with Thai Fabrics" project, comprising designers and experts in Thai textiles, with giving advice for cloth weavers across the country, under the guiding principle of the royal initiative “Sustainable Fashion.”
The Princess also serves as editor-in-chief for the Thai Textiles Trend Book, given to cloth weavers and textile entrepreneurs, showing how innovations in traditional crafts, particularly the locally sourced fibers of Thailand, can be elevated into contemporary designs that meet the needs of the global fashion industry.
In response to the royal initiative, Fun with Thai Fabrics, by Her Royal Highness Princess Sirivannavari, the Community Development Department, Ministry of Interior, has organized workshops to develop the potential of operators, under the “One Tambon, One Product” (OTOP) program in the fields of textiles and handicrafts, to preserve local wisdom on Thai textile and community handicrafts, while improving local people’s quality of life.
