Thailand is reinforcing its national capacity for disability inclusion through coordinated policies and cross-sector collaboration, led by the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security (MSDHS), the country’s primary agency responsible for social welfare and human security.
The Ministry organized the International Day of Persons with Disabilities 2025 on December 3 last year. under the theme “Promoting inclusive and accessible societies for advancing social progress and sustainable development,” reflecting Thailand’s systematic approach to improving the quality of life for persons with disabilities. The event highlighted nationwide engagement, including the presentation of more than 500 honorary awards to outstanding persons with disabilities, organizations, and creative media outlets.
As part of its policy-driven approach, MSDHS signed two Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) to expand economic and social opportunities for persons with disabilities. The agreements focus on improving transport and market access to support employment and income generation, as well as applying space and geospatial technologies to enhance innovation-based services.
With more than 3.88 million persons with disabilities nationwide, the Ministry is accelerating its mission through three key strategies: supporting income generation and skills development for persons with disabilities, expanding employment opportunities in both public and private sectors, and strengthening an integrated One Stop Service system for disability services.
Further reforms are planned, including a transition from a physical-based to a social-based disability assessment framework, alongside a proposal to increase the disability allowance nationwide, reinforcing Thailand’s commitment to equity, accessibility, and inclusive national development
