Festivities to Be Held at Sanam Luang to Celebrate the Sixth-Cycle Birthday of King Rama X

The Government, through the Ministry of Culture, will hold a grand event with festivities in honor of His Majesty the King, as part of the “Celebrations on the Auspicious Occasion of His Majesty the King’s 6th Cycle Birthday Anniversary 28th July 2024.”

Minister of Culture Sudawan Wangsuphakijkosol stated that the event will take place at Sanam Luang ceremonial ground in Bangkok from 11 to 15 July. The Ministry of Culture has invited Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin to preside over the opening ceremony on 11 July at 19.30 hr.

Before the opening ceremony, a parade with 26 spectacular displays and processions will be arranged from 17.30 to 19.00 hr, with more than 2,800 participants from the Royal Thai Army, the Royal Thai Navy, the Royal Thai Air Force, the Royal Thai Police, civil servants, representatives of the private sector, and members of the public in Bangkok and the provinces.

Among the festivities is the exhibition “72nd Birthday Anniversary of King Rama X Maha Vajiralongkorn,” which features the biography of His Majesty the King and royal activities. There will also be a garden light show and cultural performances.

As for cultural performances, they will take place at the central stage from 11 to 15 July, between 18.30 and 22.00 hr, and at small stages from 12 to 14 July between 16.30 and 18.30 hr. They include, for instance, a drone show, musical performances, Nora dance drama, Khon masked dance drama, and international Ramayana performances, with Thailand joining seven countries, namely Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, and Singapore.

This event also includes a cultural market selling cultural products of Thailand (CPOT), a food fair, demonstrations of food preparation in the form of a retro market, and demonstrations of cultural wisdom, such as traditional Thai massage, Thai kite making, and vegetable and fruit carving.

Both Thais and foreigners are invited to join this event free of charge. The Bangkok Mass Transit Authority will arrange free bus services for five routes from 11 to 15 July, between12.00 and 22.00 hr. More information can be obtained at the Culture Hotline 1765.
