Elevating Thai Massage Therapists Pushing Thailand to International Standards Becoming the Center for Health and Wellness

Thai massage, an ancient wisdom deeply rooted in Thai culture, has earned global recognition as a unique and valuable heritage. Its distinctive characteristics continue to captivate people worldwide. Nowadays, Thai massage, celebrated both within Thailand and across the globe, has left its soothing imprint on countless corners of the world. From bustling city streets to tranquil retreats, the art of Thai massage thrives, connecting people to centuries-old wisdom and holistic well-being.

The government sees the growth opportunities of the Thai massage business, aligning with the policy of becoming a medical and health hub by pushing the public health industry to be a comprehensive health care center of the world. There are three main focuses: supporting the opening of Wellness Centers abroad, upgrading through certification issuance, and having a quality licensing process to protect the reputation. Thus, the Department of Thai Traditional and Alternative Medicine has been tasked with producing skilled masseurs for the Thai massage market.

The Department of Thai Traditional and Alternative Medicine’s initiative to open 17 certified health massage courses is a significant step toward nurturing skilled masseurs. With an expected output of over 10,000 trained professionals, Thailand is poised to share its healing touch far and wide.

Producing skilled masseurs for the Thai massage market will not only promote the Thai massage business but also enhance the country's health tourism. Tourists visiting Thailand will experience high-quality Thai massage, which will build reputation and attract more tourists to use the service. Supporting this industry also creates economic opportunities for communities and the country as a whole, adding value and sustainability to the Thai health tourism industry.
