Sunset shines through 15 doorways of Prasat Phanom Rung on 5-7 October 2023
Phanom Rung Historical Park announced that the phenomenon of sunset shining through all 15 doorways of Prasat Phanom Rung will occur in the evening from 5 to 7 October 2023, from 17.30 hr onward, at the east Prasat courtyard. The circumstance happens in different seasons four times a year; the sunrise is in April and September, while the sunset is in March and October. Visitors should note that being able actually to see the phenomenon is subject to the weather each day.
Located in Ban Tapek, Buri Ram province, Phanom Rung Historical Park, or Prasat Phanom Rung is on an extinct volcano. It is a compound built for the Sivaism sect of the Hindu religion. It has been constructed and reconstructed over many periods, since the 15th and 18th centuries of the Buddhist era. It was built from pink sandstone and located on the peak of Phanom Rung hill. Rising to 200 meters above the surrounding plain, it dominates the landscape in every direction.
