ASEANSafe 2025 Strengthens Regional Food Safety Collaboration to Address Climate-Driven Risks

ASEANSafe 2025 serves as a regional platform aimed at advancing food safety resilience across ASEAN amid escalating climate-related challenges. The conference brings together research institutions, universities, and international partners to exchange knowledge, innovations, and best practices essential for safeguarding public health and strengthening the entire food supply chain. With millions affected annually by foodborne diseases in the region, the event underscores the urgency of cross-border cooperation and science diplomacy in addressing shared risks.

A key highlight of the conference is the presentation of collaborative research initiatives such as the Mycobean and mycoSMART projects under the EU RISE scheme, which demonstrate the impact of data-driven innovation in tackling climate-amplified contaminants like mycotoxins. The International Joint Centre for Food Security (IJC-FOODSEC) plays a central role by integrating scientific research, regulatory frameworks, and industrial practices, enabling the development of tools and mechanisms that enhance early detection, prevention, and mitigation of food safety hazards.

The meeting reinforces the importance of building a sustainable and resilient food system through advanced technologies, capacity building, and shared research infrastructure. Participants expressed optimism that ASEANSafe 2025 will lead to new partnerships, harmonized standards, and practical solutions that fortify the region’s food security in the face of global environmental change.
