Bangkok: Asian Football Confederation (AFC) President Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa today met with The Football Association of Thailand (FA Thailand) President Mrs. Nualphan Lamsam and expressed his gratitude to the Thai football family for their warm hospitality ahead of the 34th AFC Congress, which will be held in the Thai capital on Thursday.
At the outset, the AFC President congratulated Mrs. Nualphan Lamsam on becoming the first female President of an AFC MA after being successfully elected earlier this year and acknowledged the meticulous attention to detail displayed by FA Thailand, which will also become the first ASEAN nation to host the 74th FIFA Congress on Friday.
Shaikh Salman paid tribute to FA Thailand for their long-standing cooperation and support in hosting the AFC’s various events and competitions, including the AFC Futsal Asian Cup Thailand 2024™, which concluded last month.
The AFC President said: “In every way, The Football Association of Thailand exemplifies the values of solidarity and unity that has become synonymous with Asian football over the years.
“They have continued to answer the clarion call by hosting numerous AFC marquee events and world-class competitions and on behalf of the Asian football family, I want to reiterate our heartfelt appreciation to FA Thailand and the Thai football community for their unwavering support and exceptional organisational capabilities.”
The AFC President also praised the achievements of Thai football on the pitch with the men’s national team advancing to the Round of 16 of the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023™ earlier this year.
Similarly, the Thai futsal side reached the Final of the AFC Futsal Asian Cup Thailand 2024™ and consequently, sealed their place in the FIFA Futsal World Cup to be played in Uzbekistan in September this year.
Shaikh Salman also commended Mrs. Nualphan on her recent appointment as the CEO of the Thai League and the proactive and progressive measures undertaken to enhance the operations of the competition.
The AFC President added: “The recent strides achieved by Thai football is a tribute to the leadership under President Mrs. Nualphan Lamsam and I want to assure FA Thailand that the AFC stands ready to offer our assistance to all our members as we strive to elevate the standards of the Asian game.”
Meanwhile, the FA Thailand President expressed her gratitude to Shaikh Salman, hailing the efforts of the Confederation to uplift the beautiful game across the Continent and reinforced her commitment to further strengthen the spirit of collaboration between FA Thailand and the AFC.
