Marriage registration and marriage ceremony on an elephant’s back

     Marriage registration and marriage ceremonies on an elephant will be held on 14 February, at the public park in honor of His Majesty the King's 80th birthday (Suan Mai), Nok Mueang Subdistrict, Mueang District, Surin Province.

     Applications are accepted from mid-January to 6 February 2023, for couples who want to take part in this activity to promote cultural tourism, the old Kui ethnic marital identity of Surin province, or the "Satte ceremony" of the traditional indigenous people. The event will be open to 30 couples, or 60 people, who may be both Thai and foreign spouses. 

     Activities at that event will include a group wedding ceremony and marriage registration on elephants for each couple, a procession of the bride and groom, a procession of dancers, a procession of long drums, the grooms’ elephant procession, an ancient Kui wedding ceremony or a Satte ceremony for the newlyweds, and, of course, happy memory photos will be taken of the couples’ marriage registration on an elephant.
