Mueang Loei red glutinous rice of Thailand has been registered as a GI, ranked 196th

     The Ministry of Commerce has announced that “Mueang Loei red glutinous rice” from Thailand has been registered as a geographical indication (GI) product. The red glutinous rice grains of Loei are a unique product, with soft texture, less sugar, and a unique aroma.

     The Ministry of Commerce reported that Mueang Loei red glutinous rice has been registered to the geographical indication products (GI) as a new item  of agricultural products, ranked 196th. This can help generate income for the community Control product quality to build consumer confidence. and expand opportunities to increase marketing channels.

    Mueang Loei red glutinous rice is a unique product.  One ear yields about 280-360 seeds, which are straw-colored and brown-brown without tails. It is planted in lowlands and plains between mountains, where the soil is rich in minerals, making rice plants able to absorb more nutrients than usual. The temperature in Loei Province is lower than in other provinces in the same region, as well.

     The rice grains it produces are different from other glutinous rice grains. When cooked, it has a unique aroma. It has a soft texture and less sugar than regular glutinous rice, so it can maintain its softness for a long time.

     Loei’s red glutinous rice is an agricultural product that has received the first prize against 90 varieties of the most aromatic glutinous rice. It has also won the third prize in the category of glutinous rice in the Northeastern Rice Expo. It is a famous agricultural product of Loei province that generates massive income for the community. The quality is controlled to build consumer confidence and expand opportunities to increase marketing channels.
