The "Pankan" shop by Yuvapat Foundation, an example of social enterprise, provides scholarships for children who lack money

     “Pankan” is a shop that operates in the form of a social enterprise, accepting items that are no longer used but in good condition and putting them up for sale at an affordable price, with all funds donated free of charge to be allocated as scholarships to students in the Yuwapat Foundation.

     In addition to fundraising for education, Pankan aims to expand the sharing society by being a model mechanism for sustainable social fundraising, participation, and consciousness in the matter of sharing based on the belief that "society can be better if we all share."

Project Concept

     Pankan believes that "society can be better if we all share." The aim, therefore, is to create participation through various forms of sharing, such as sharing things, money, time, and talents, to create a positive change in society. It is a platform to create sustainable participation.

Project Implementation

     The social enterprise shop accepts donations of items in good condition for sharing in the shop. All funds raised are provided as scholarships to underprivileged children in Yuwapat Foundation through systematic and transparent work.

Here are few of the project’s accomplishments:

  • Create awareness and participation to expand social networks of sharing. Increase the number of dividers for both individuals and organizations through shopfronts, activities, and public relations;
  • Raise scholarships for underprivileged children;
  • Be a model of sustainable fundraising to other organizations or foundations.

The overall performance in 2021 was shaped by the spread of the COVID-19 virus, so business was not at a normal level; Pankan shops were affected as well by the challenging years of difficult situations. Pankan stores continue to receive generosity and participation from the dividers and organizations that continue to help subsidize goods, and that share and donate items to provide educational opportunities to Thai youths.

     In 2021, more than 282,645 individual and organizational contributions were generated, both with items and money; 197 organizations helped one another to create educational opportunities and raise scholarships for underprivileged children, giving  6,879 scholarships, amounting to a total of 48.2 million baht (ordinary scholarships of 7,000 baht per person per year, and vocational education, 14,000 baht per person per year).

     Currently, 16 branches of Pankan, one warehouse shared by the Yuwapat Foundation, and one franchise, Korat Pankan by the Korat Community Foundation, have been established.

Other social outcomes

  • More than 1.2 million items were donated, reused, and recycled to help the environment;
  • The cost of living from affordable shared goods was lightened;
  • Careers as branch employees and warehouse staff were created.
