Thailand's 1st “Ecosystem Bridge" located on Rayong - Chanthaburi highway

Road construction is a vital factor for the prosperity of an area and its people. However, when roads are built in forested areas, they can pose threats to wildlife and ecosystems.

The "Ecosystem Bridge," the first of its kind in Thailand, was built on the rural highway No.4060, stretching across Khao Chamao District in Rayong Province and Kaeng Hang Maeo District in Chanthaburi Province. It was created for the safety of wildlife, improving travel convenience for people, and promoting sustainable domestic tourism. The total construction budget was approximately 587.516 million Baht, and the bridge was expected to be completed by mid-2025.

The purpose of this bridge is to connect the ecosystems of the Khao Ang Ruea Nai Wildlife Sanctuary and Khao Chamao - Khao Wong National Park, replacing the road that formerly separated these areas. The bridge allows for vehicular traffic while providing safe passage for wildlife underneath, protecting numerous species from potential harm.

The two-section "Ecosystem Bridge" is 11 meters wide, with lengths of 630 meters and 420 meters, supporting two lanes of traffic (one lane in each direction). There are also designated parking areas on the bridge for officials and interested public to observe the behavior of animals passing through, which promotes tourism and fosters the coexistence of humans, plants, and wildlife sustainably.
