"Thai Chicken Goes to Space": Transforming Thai Cuisine to Reach Beyond Our World

Thai food is renowned worldwide, thanks to the policy of promoting "Thai Kitchen to the World", making the food industry a driving force for our economy. Hence, to advance Thailand's food industry amid global competition, it is imperative to leverage technology, research, and innovation. These tools are essential for elevating our entrepreneurs and products to meet the needs of consumers, especially in today's world, which emphasizes health and wellness. Therefore, it is necessary to seize opportunities and chart the future direction for Thai food.

Thailand Institute of Scientific and Technological Research launched the THAILAND SPACE FOOD FORUM under the theme "THAI FOOD – MISSION to SPACE: Transforming Thai Cuisine to Reach Beyond Our World". The forum brings together all stakeholders to shape the future of Thai food standards on the global stage, raising them to be equivalent to space food standards. The role of innovation and promotion of space food standards and how they contribute to the Thai food scene, along with the ultimate goals of space and Thai food standards, were discussed.

Charoen Pokphand Foods Public Company Limited (CPF), has embarked on a research collaboration with NASA's Food Research Center, along with space innovation experts NANORACKS LCC and MU Space and Advanced Technology Co., Ltd. The project aims to elevate the standards of CP Chicken to international levels, adhering to the Space Food Safety Standard. This is the only safety standard acknowledged by NASA.

By the year 2023, Thai chicken dishes are being prepared to be sent to space for astronauts aboard the International Space Station (ISS) to consume. The food will be delivered under safety standards certified by NASA and will be transported via the SPACE-X spacecraft.
