'Sontana' Avatar Provides Automated FAQ Response Services

In the present world we live in, overflowing with information, it is crucial to impress customers with accurate and quick information. Seeing the importance of this, the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), specifically the National Electronics and Computer Technology Centre (NECTEC), developed the 'Sontana' avatar for automated question-answering services. This aims to provide users with quick and useful information, creating a positive impression of the organization.

The system builds upon existing artificial intelligence (AI) platforms that cater to various aspects of voice and text, such as voice-to-text platforms, text-to-voice platforms, text data analysis platforms, and chatbot or automated response systems. A key strength of these platforms is their ability to process natural language, both in Thai and English.

The research team has combined three such platforms that are already in use: 'Partii,' a Thai speech transcription service, 'Abdul,' an automated response service, and 'VAJA,' a Thai speech and image synthesis service through the internet, along with avatar creation technology. This resulted in an 'avatar' that meets customer needs, especially in addressing personnel shortages and carrying out general Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) services. The 'Avatar' can answer questions based on a dataset provided by the employer, with polite facial expressions, gestures, and voice, all within no more than 5 seconds.

The 'Sontana' avatar demonstrates realistic, detailed facial expressions that match the spoken words, creating an animated, lifelike experience. It's as if there's an additional employee answering user queries. Many users who have tried the system affectionately refer to it as 'Nong Sontana.'

Currently, the research team is ready to provide the 'Sontana' platform to business groups, software houses, and both public and private organizations that require an automated question-answering system with visuals and sound. Those interested in using the service can contact the Research Strategy and Technology Transfer division of NECTEC, NSTDA.
