The Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (Public Organization), or GISTDA, under the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), in collaboration with the United States Embassy in Thailand, organized the Space Science School 2023 camp in Thailand from April 24 to 28, 2023 at the Space Inspirium in Si Racha district, Chonburi province. The event brought together 60 students from remote areas of Thailand and ASEAN countries to exchange knowledge and learn about space technology and geoinformatics.
The Space Science School, 2023 in Thailand, was a joint initiative to provide opportunities for students from remote areas to learn and develop their creativity and skills in space technology and geoinformatics. The 60 students selected to participate included 40 high school students from various remote areas of Thailand and 20 students from other ASEAN countries. They received various types of knowledge, connecting networks and exchanging knowledge between ASEAN levels, including space technology.
At the Space Science School 2023 activity in Thailand, all participants gained a wealth of knowledge on various topics, including space technology, satellite development and construction, space exploration and research, control systems and signal transmission, aerodynamic design and analysis. They were taught by experts from both within and outside of Thailand, including NASA, the U.S. Space and Rocket Center, Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI), Brunel University (in the United Kingdom), and the engineering team from THEOS-2 of GISTDA. Additionally, there were opportunities for the exchange of perspectives and ideas between experts and young participants, as well as stargazing activities and a G.I. Rally at Pattaya Beach and Khao Kheow Open Zoo.
This event not only provided the young participants with knowledge beyond the classroom but also created new experiences that inspire young people with dreams of working in the space industry and supports the development of future scientists in the ASEAN region. The ultimate goal is to promote the development of the space economy and future career paths for the ASEAN region.
