DASTA Shares 4 Guidelines for Global Conservation Tourism

Each journey creates life experiences, inspiration, and self-discovery. However, it would be even better if we took greater care and were gentler to the Earth on every journey. This concept is also known as Global Conservation Tourism. The Designated Areas for Sustainable Tourism Administration (Public Organization) (or DASTA) has proposed four guidelines for global conservation tourism, as follows:

1.  Select sustainable tourism.

Presently, many areas are beginning to implement sustainable tourism more, in both environmental conservation and local resource usage; moreover, they focus on creating life experiences and actual learning for the visitors. This emerges from the local production procedures that are not complicated and use less energy.

2. Ride a bicycle instead of riding a motorbike.

Riding a bicycle to travel, a quite slow journey opens our opportunities to acquire knowledge of our favorite tourist sites thoroughly and deeply both in travel routes and in local people’s way of life. This makes you see the world in different ways; meanwhile, riding a bicycle is a friendly activity for your health and protects the environment as well as being one way to save petrol costs.

3.  Reserve nature-friendly accommodations.

Apart from the conveniences and cleanliness, nature-friendly management is one of the considerable aspects that we must consider for selecting accommodations. Currently, there are many hotels, resorts, and guesthouses that mix global conservation guidelines in their management. Therefore, promoting hotels or accommodations that are friendly to nature is one way for everyone to take care of our earth.

 4. Buy souvenirs with care.

Apart from price, the beauty of souvenirs is one thing that everyone should focus on. We can pay attention to some tiny details such as the packaging of plastics, paper, or nature-made materials, or trying to carry fabric bags instead of plastic bags, and so on.
