Eliminating PM2.5 By Requiring Industrial Plants to Install Air Pollution Emission Detectors Starting on June 10

PM 2.5 is a national problem

The situation of PM 2.5 is a national problem as it is caused by a variety of activities such as the combustion of engines, construction, burning of agriculture and industrial plants. In terms of urgent measures in the industry last year (2022), the Ministry of Industry of Thailand issued a notification ‘Factories to Install Special Device or Equipment for Reporting Air Pollution from Factory Chimney B.E. 2565.

As a result, 13 large factories that emit pollution from chimneys of more than 600 factories across the country must install Continuous Emission Monitoring Systems (CEMS) to measure air pollution and air condition continuously before coming out of chimneys and must link data to the Department of Industrial Works to monitor and control air pollution emissions from chimneys in real time 24 hours a day from June 10, 2023, onwards. Previously, this notification was only enforced in Rayong Province only. As for factories that apply for new permits, CEMS must be installed before commencing factory operations, while old factories must completely install them by June 9, 2024.
