Procedures for Registration of an Aquatic Animal Quarantine Facility

In order to prevent and control epidemics from importing aquatic animals, exporting aquatic animals, or letting them transit through the Kingdom, the Department of Fisheries determines an aquatic animal quarantine facility to prevent transmission, observe symptoms, and perform disease analysis in order to control the spread of pathogens. The registration of an aquatic animal quarantine facility consists of several steps, taking a period of about 30 days, as follows:

  1. Checking the completeness of documents. The applicant submits a request for a certificate of an aquatic animal quarantine facility, along with evidence documents. Then the officer checks the request and the evidence documents. The processing time is 1 working day.
  2. The officer sends the request and documents to the auditors. The auditors make an appointment for the audit date, and the inspection team prepares documents for the actual site assessment. The processing time is 10 working days.
  3. The assessment team assesses the aquatic animal quarantine facility, in accordance with an assessment form. The processing time is 1 working day.
  4. The assessment team summarizes the audit results, and each auditor fills in an assessment report form for the facility. The assessment team sends evidence documents and assessment results to the working group. The processing time is 3 working days.
  5. The working group conducts a meeting to consider the assessment results and to summarize the results of the evaluation. The working group prepares a summary of the certification decision and a letter stating the results of the facility certification process, which is proposed to the chairman of the working group to sign. The processing time is 10 working days.
  6. The chairman of the working group signs two forms, which are a summary of the aquatic animal quarantine facility certification and a letter stating the results of the certification process; this is done within 1 working day.
  7. After that, if the certification is approved, the working group prepares a certificate and asks the authorized person to sign it within 3 working days.
  8. The authorized committee member signs the certificate for an aquatic animal quarantine facility. The processing time is 1 working day.
