Criteria for applying a registration as a healthcare service provider in a healthcare establishment for the elderly or persons with disabilities

     Not only Thailand but also the world is facing an aging society. Thailand has been moving toward the status of an aging society since 2005 and will be a full-fledged aging society in 2022. This has led to a continuous growth in businesses related to elderly care. Because the quality of care is paramount, individuals who wish to register as a healthcare service provider in a healthcare establishment for the elderly or persons with disabilities must meet the following criteria:

      The Health Business Establishment Act, B.E. 2559 (2016), Section 22 states that any person who wishes to perform duties as a service provider in a health business establishment must submit an application for registration as a service provider to the grantor. The application must comply with the Ministry of Public Health’s[? Is this right?]  regulations on registration as a service provider in a health business establishment B.E. 2560 (2017). Therefore, those who wish to work as service providers in a healthcare establishment must be registered as service providers in a healthcare establishment, in accordance with the Health Business Establishment Act, B.E., 2559 (2016).

In addition, applicants must have completed a health service course certified by the Department of Health Service Support, possess specific qualifications and not have any disqualifications, as specified in Section 23 of the Health Business Establishment Act, B.E. 2559 (2016):

  • Being not less than eighteen years of age;
  • Having obtained a diploma or a certificate in health service accredited by the Department of Health Service Support;
  • Not being a person of unsound mind, a legally incompetent person, or a quasi-incompetent person;
  • Not being a person who suffers from a communicable disease regarded as abhorrent to society, alcoholism, or narcotic addiction.
