Mutelu Community Tourism: Worship of Norah at Tamod Community, Phatthalung

Tamod community in Phatthalung province is nestled on a plain near the mountain range, interspersed with low hills covered with diverse flora and crisscrossed by streamlets. Known originally as “Tomod,” this community, or "Tamod," is home to a harmonious mix of Thai Buddhists and Muslims, who have coexisted for a long time, earning it the moniker "Two-Religion Community". This land of peace is brimming with friendship, warm smiles, and a plethora of cultures and traditions, which have thrived together for over 100 years.

Furthermore, this venerable community is a sort of capital for the worship of Norah, where not only local arts and traditions are perpetuated, but also strong faith and beliefs. Hence, the ceremony of installing a Norah teacher, or worshiping Norah, becomes a significant ritual which people from all directions eagerly participate in at least once in their lives. It is believed that reverence will bridge the gap between this world and the next, enabling the departed ancestors to protect and accompany their descendants, with the Norah teacher statue acting as a spiritual intermediary. This belief helps alleviate sorrow and brings prosperity and happiness, and grants blessings to those who respect and believe in it.

For Mutelu travelers who wish to experience the sacred Norah worship ceremony, Tamod community is located about 75 kilometers from Hat Yai district, Songkhla province. If you are driving, take Highway No. 4. The journey will take approximately one hour, and you will arrive at Tamod village.
