Thailand's commitment to pushing forward the Kaeng Krachan Forest Complex to be considered by the World Heritage Committee (UNESCO) was evident three times, in 2015, 2016, and 2019, until it was able to enter the World Heritage Committee meeting, the 44th common session in 2021, when it was finally registered as a World Heritage Site, with the 10th criterion: biodiversity. This indicates a successful implementation of the conservation of habitat areas that are of the utmost importance for the conservation of indigenous biodiversity, including being a habitat for plant and animal species that are of outstanding scientific or conservation value on a global scale. Kaeng Krachan Forest Complex is the sixth World Heritage Site of Thailand and the third World Natural Heritage Site of Thailand, since the registration of Thung Yai Wildlife Sanctuary – Huai Kha Khaeng in 1991 and Dong Phayayen Forest Complex – Khao Yai in 2005.
Kaeng Krachan Forest Complex is a large forest located in three provinces, namely Ratchaburi, Phetchaburi, and Prachuap Khiri Khan; it covers Kaeng Krachan National Park, Kui Buri National Park, Chaloem Phrakiat Thai Prachan National Park, and Phachi River Wildlife Sanctuary. The total area is over 2.5 million rai (4,000 square kilometers), with a length from the northernmost point to the southernmost point of more than 200 kilometers.
In addition, Kaeng Krachan Forest Complex is an important watershed source of the Phetchaburi River, Pranburi River, and Phachi River. It is a large tract of abundant forests consisting of several geographic areas, namely Sundaic, Sino-Himalayan, Indochinese, and Indo-Burmese.
