Nature Tourism – Conquering the Nature at “Pha Lok Luang” (Lok Luang Cliff), Phu Bak Dai, Loei Province

Here’s a tip for visitors fascinated by getting into nature, such as hiking in the forest and traveling adventure: if you go to Loei province, you won’t want to miss the picturesque, natural scenery at Phu Bak Dai in Phu Ruea District, one of the forest hiking routes to conquer the mountain and a great route for exploring the beautiful nature all around. It is located over 1,200 meters above sea level and is situated in Phuluang Wildlife Sanctuary, with an area spread among three subdistricts of Phu Ruea District: Santom, Tha Sala, and Plaba subdistricts.

The highlight of Phu Bak Dai is that tourists can see the beauty of the sunrise and the sunset on both sides, the good atmosphere, and a variety of interesting boulders and rock formations, especially Hin Hoei Kha (Hoei Kha stone), whose name was changed to the Lok Luang stone. This very unusual stone is a boulder protruding straight out from the hillside, almost like a tongue. (In some pictures, it looks dangerous, but it’s not very high.) People get excited standing on this boulder and taking photos with it. If you don’t take a few pictures with this stone, it means you didn’t really see the best of Pha Lok Luang.

It’s particularly enjoyable if you can visit in the rainy and winter season, when there will be a beautiful sea of fog in the mornings to gaze upon.

Travelers can ask for more information at the Bangpla local tourism community promotion association, in Loei Province, or ring 09 5658 7113 and 08 7866 8647.

Anyone interested in camping overnight must prepare all accessories themselves, because Phu Bak Dai has no facilities, bathrooms, or restrooms available. Visitors have to reserve in advance if they want to stay overnight. The fee for car service is 3,000 baht per vehicle. Cars are allowed to bring in a limit of only six people. This rate includes driving to Phu Bak Dai and picking them up, carrying all luggage, eating, making a bonfire for cooking, paying for a tour guide, giving security service, and paying the fee to preserve the community tourism business.
