The Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) was established to aid in the understanding of sustainable tourism. The GSTC Criteria, also known as GSTC-D, are the fundamental criteria that a destination should strive to meet. Thailand has used sustainable tourism criteria to develop the Thai tourism industry in order to meet these standards, and another important issue is tourism management strategies and action plans. There must be a long-term strategic plan for tourist attraction management as well as an appropriate action plan, preferably growing from a meeting to design a plan with stakeholders. Strategic plans and action plans must be founded on sustainability principles and made public. Tourist attractions’ strategic plans and action plans should be easily accessible and searchable online.
Simultaneously, strategic plans must identify and assess tourism assets while accounting for social, economic, cultural, and environmental risks. They will also be involved in and influence policy aimed at ensuring the long-term viability of tourism destinations as a whole, in order to meet the Sustainable Development Goals.
