Global Sustainable Tourism Criteria, for sustainability management and entrepreneurial engagement

The Global Sustainable Tourism Criteria will be revised again in 2024 to provide guidance on international norms in developing up-to-date and relevant global sustainability standards. Thailand has adopted sustainable tourism criteria in order to standardize and sustain the Thai tourism industry. The primary criteria for any attraction or destination are divided into four categories: sustainable management, socioeconomic impact, cultural impact, and environmental impact. The criteria are applicable to the entire tourism industry.
Sustainable tourism management necessitates collaboration from various segments of society, particularly participation in the use of sustainability standards by operators; for instance, tourist attractions must provide information to tourism operators, such as direct discussions on sustainability issues on a regular basis, as well as promoting and supporting those entrepreneurs in making their businesses more sustainable. Tourist attractions must encourage the adoption of sustainability standards, particularly GSTC-I for operators. Business owners should adopt the recognized standards and enter the GSTC-I Accredited standard certification system if they are capable of doing so. Furthermore, attractions must publish a list of operators who have been certified to meet sustainability standards, and the list must be updated on a regular basis.
