Travel in a day: Take a train to Sai Yok Noi Waterfall on the World War History Route

      Kanchanaburi is another tourist province near Bangkok with a variety of interesting tourist attractions, such as nature, culture, and history, because it is a province with mountains, waterfalls, dams, rafting, and the famous bridge over the River Kwai. The historic railway line is a popular tourist destination. It retains its allure, reflecting the lessons of WW II, and serves as a symbol of Kanchanaburi even today.

      For tourists with limited time but who still want to visit Kanchanaburi province, the State Railway of Thailand currently operates a special tourist train route 909 / 910 Bangkok - Waterfall every Saturday, Sunday, and public holiday.

      This train starts at 6:30 a.m. Special Train No. 909 will depart from Bangkok Station and at 7:45 a.m. will arrive in Nakhon Pathom, giving you 40 minutes if you would like to pay your respects to Phra Pathom Chedi or go shopping. Then, the train will depart from Nakhon Pathom Province, with the next stop being the Bridge over the River Kwai, where everyone can visit and take pictures at their leisure.

      Then, continue along the foot of the Kwai Noi River’s cliff, running along a curved path that’s 400 meters in length, until you reach Tham Krasae Station, where you can learn about the station’s historical railway line that is still active. Built by Allied prisoners of war during World War II, this railway line is one of the most impressive yet meaningful ever built. Then, at 11:30 a.m., the train arrives at Sai Yok Noi Waterfall or Khao Phang Waterfall. The months of September and October are the wettest and most scenic, making for spectacular waterfall viewing. We have about three hours to unwind at the waterfall and cool off in the water before heading back. Pay your respects at the Allied War Cemetery on the way home. After that, everyone should meet back at Kanchanaburi’s train station to board the 7:25 p.m. departure back to Bangkok.

      In terms of transportation costs, this route is very cheap. Third-class tickets on a regular train cost 120 baht per person, while tickets in an air-conditioned second-class passenger car cost 240 baht per person, regardless of age.
