Traveling in Nakhon Phanom Province: The Tai Kuan tribe – Happiness, health, and zero-carbon tourism

The Isaan region, northeastern Thailand, is another area with cultural diversity that is suitable for those who love ecotourism and community lifestyle.

The Tai Kuan tribe, in Ban Na Thon, Na Thon Subdistrict, That Phanom District, Nakhon Phanom Province, is one of the cultural tourism communities and classified as a low-carbon tourism route in the province, thanks to the concept of "Live well, share good things, eat healthy, great exercise." This is a principle that will reduce resource consumption, energy consumption, waste and carbon dioxide emissions, in the move toward net zero carbon tourism.

Visitors will learn about the way of life of the Tai Kuan people, who still retain their traditions and their beliefs, which have been handed down since their ancestors' time, such as the Boon Heet Sipsong tradition, Phi Mo dance, and Phi Liang Saeng tradition, which can be seen only at the Ban Na Thon community.

The local wisdom of the Tai Kuan people is still deeply rooted in the three main occupations of the lives of the people in the community, as shown in the motto “Rice farmers, weaving women, blacksmithing men,” reflecting the activities of rice farming, weaving, and blacksmithing.

Another highlight of Na Thon is the local salt spa, as well as learning how to weave fishing gear,  experiencing mixed farming, and learning how to preserve food, such as salted meat, making Ban Na Thon Dot another tourist destination that nature conservation tourists should not miss.
