“Where can the Airport Rail Link from Suvarnabhumi Airport take me?”

“Where can the Airport Rail Link from Suvarnabhumi Airport take me?”

      Nowadays, tourists traveling to Thailand via Suvarnabhumi Airport tend to use public transportation to get into town, and Airport Rail Link is the only rail transport service connecting routes from Suvarnabhumi Airport to reach the heart of Bangkok or from the city center to Suvarnabhumi Airport. (There is a normal train service, the State Railway of Thailand Eastern Line, that follows the same route, except that it does not have a station at the airport.)

      The Airport Rail Link's passenger pick-up and drop-off service makes traveling to Suvarnabhumi Airport faster, more convenient, and flexible, as it is an electric train system serving at a speed of 160 kilometers per hour, running on an elevated track along the Eastern Railway Line, with a distance of 28 km and eight stations:

1. Suvarnabhumi Station: Located in the basement of Suvarnabhumi Airport;

2. Lat Krabang Station;

3. Ban Thap Chang Station;

4. Hua Mak Station;

5. Ramkhamhaeng Station;

6. Makkasan Station, or Bangkok City Air Terminal: Connecting to the MRT Blue Line Phetchaburi Station;

7. Ratchaprarop Station;

8. Phaya Thai Station: Terminal station connecting to the BTS Skytrain Sukhumvit Line (Green Line) at Phaya Thai Station.

At the moment, the service of the Airport Rail Link consists of one system:

      The Suvarnabhumi Airport Railroad System (City Line) provides service between Phayathai Station, which connects to BTS Skytrain, and the terminal station at Suvarnabhumi Airport. It stops at six stations between the two ends and takes no more than 30 minutes to travel from your departure station to the destination station. It is also a popular commuter train, so don’t be surprised to see many students getting on at various stations.

      (Although the other line does not run anymore, it is worth mentioning the Suvarnabhumi Airport Express Line, the former express train connecting the airport and Bangkok City Air Terminal (BCAT), or Makkasan Station. Some trains on the regular City route still have the red “Express” logo painted on them, so knowing that there is no express line may prevent confusion.)

The railway is mostly elevated, except the section before entering Suvarnabhumi Station, which runs at ground level and goes underground at the airport.

Airport Rail Link operates daily from 5:30 a.m. to 12:00 a.m. (midnight).

Fares start at 15 baht and go to 45 baht (5-baht increments per station).
