Thailand has been recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a global leader in the prevention and control of noncommunicable diseases (NCDs). This acknowledgment highlights the country’s effective and cost-efficient policies under the “NCDs Best Buys” framework.
Key measures praised include plain packaging for tobacco products, increased taxes on tobacco and sugary beverages, and the elimination of trans fats—policies that have set a global standard. WHO also encourages Thailand to share its experiences internationally and to adopt new measures, such as reducing unhealthy food consumption and promoting physical activity.
Additionally, Thailand’s “Thai People Free from NCDs” initiative aligns with WHO’s goal to reduce premature mortality from NCDs by one-third by 2030.
Thailand’s success in combating NCDs reflects its commitment to public health and serves as a model for sustainable health goals on a global scale.
