Discover the Magnificent 52 Royal Barges Procession - A Masterpiece and Legacy of Thai Royal Tradition

The Royal Barge Procession reflects the true beauty and grandeur of Thai culture, held in honor of His Majesty the King’s private journeys. This includes paying homage at Saraburi’s Phra Phutthabat, welcoming foreign dignitaries, and being part of significant royal ceremonies like the Royal Kathin Offering Ceremony and the Royal Coronation Ceremony.

In the current reign, the first Royal Barge Procession was held on December 12, 2019, when His Majesty proceeded from the Wasukri Pier to the Ratchaworadit Pier. The second procession will take place on October 27, 2024, when His Majesty will travel to Wat Arun Ratchawararam Ratchaworamahawihan to offer the royal Kathin robes. This will once again showcase Thailand’s historical grandeur to the world.

This procession consists of 52 barges, arranged in 5 rows and 3 columns, spanning 1,200 meters in length and 90 meters in width. The central row features three prominent royal barges: the Suphannahong, Anantanakkharat, and Narai Song Suban King Rama IX barges. Other barges participating include the Ekachai Hern Hao and Ekachai Lao Thong, along with animal-shaped barges that reflect the beauty and uniqueness of Thai culture.

The route begins at the Wasukri Pier, passing the Krung Thon Bridge, Rama VIII Bridge, Somdet Phra Pinklao Bridge, Siriraj Hospital, the Royal Thai Navy Yard, and the Grand Palace, ending at Wat Arun Ratchawararam Ratchaworamahawihan. This route has been used since the reign of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great.

This procession is a wonderful opportunity to appreciate the magnificence and splendor of Thailand’s cultural heritage, a unique tradition that showcases the artistic and ceremonial brilliance passed down through generations.
