The construction of Ban Sai Nong 2 earthen dam under the Royal Initiative benefits around 578 people from 185 households in Tha Mai District, Chanthaburi Province. It arose from the needs of the people in Village 15, Ban Sai Nong, who faced drought and a lack of water for consumption and agriculture, particularly for fruit farming of durian, mangosteen, and rambutan.
The area’s main water sources are shallow wells, water from the Sai Nong Canal, and the original Ban Sai Nong dam, built by the Royal Irrigation Department with a capacity of 60,000 cubic meters. However, it was still insufficient during the dry season, causing continuous water shortages.
On May 9, 2017, His Majesty the King graciously accepted this project as a Royal Initiative, aiming to assist the people. Relevant agencies began construction in June 2017, completing it in October 2018, with land donated by the villagers for the project site.
The dam now provides additional water during the dry season and droughts, storing at least 94,740 cubic meters annually. It helps resolve water shortages for consumption and agriculture, slows down floodwaters during the rainy season, mitigates flooding in lower areas, and increases groundwater, bringing moisture to the land. This allows villagers to farm more effectively and sustainably.
