A specialized medical team from Thailand was invited to mentor the first-ever living donor kidney transplant surgeries in Bhutan, involving two donor-recipient pairs at Bhutan’s central hospital. This historic procedure covered the full process—from patient evaluation and surgical planning to intra- and postoperative care—while closely training Bhutanese medical staff.
The surgeries were successful, with donors and recipients recovering smoothly and without complications, all under internationally recognized standards. The mission also included formal discussions and the signing of cooperation agreements between Thailand and Bhutan to enhance organ transplant capabilities across academic, service, and personnel exchange dimensions.
This marks a significant step in elevating Thai medical expertise on the global stage while strengthening international relations.
