Land Reform to Railway! Cabinet Approves Transport and Logistics Promotion Project

The Cabinet (Krungthep) has approved the use of land in the Agricultural Land Reform Area (ALRA) for the construction of the Denchai-Chiang Rai-Chiang Khong railway line and the Ban Phai-Nakhon Phanom line, covering a total area of over 3,455 rai. This initiative aims to modernize Thailand's transport and logistics system and promote the country's economic development.

This project not only enhances travel but also upgrades the nation's infrastructure, creating strong connections between provinces while providing compensation to affected farmers.

Why use ALRA land?

The construction of both railway lines is crucial for the development of the country's infrastructure, but requires significant land area for construction. Especially, the railway routes must be continuous and flat to ensure safe and efficient train operations. Therefore, obtaining permission to use land in the ALRA is necessary for comprehensive and continuous project execution.

Impact and Remediation

Certainly, the use of ALRA land for railway construction will impact farmers who have been allocated land in those areas. However, the government has measures in place to remedy the situation for affected farmers, such as compensation payments, provision of land replacements, and assistance in finding new employment opportunities to alleviate their hardships in order to allow them to continue their lives.

The development of this railway project will be a significant step in enhancing Thailand's transport capacity, making travel more convenient and faster, and promoting sustainable long-term economic growth.
