Press Release from the Joint Press Center on the Thailand-Cambodia Border Situation, Subject: Clarification on the Thai side’s Full Compliance with Paragraph 2 of the Joint Statement
Following statements made by the Cambodian side that it does not accept any changes to border demarcation resulting from the use of force, Thailand wishes to clarify the facts for an accurate understanding of the public and the media, as follows:
1) Thailand adheres strictly to the Joint Statement, especially paragraph 2.
Thailand has fully complied with the Joint Statement of the 3rd Special Session of the General Border Committee (GBC) on 27 December 2025, particularly regarding the maintenance of “current troop deployments.”
There has been no movement of additional troops, no encroachment, and no patrols directed towards the other side’s positions, as clearly stated in the Joint Statement.
2) Thailand’s actions in areas under its sovereign control, as agreed upon in the Joint Statement, do not constitute a border change.
Thai troops had been deployed for control of and security in areas where Thailand previously held positions based on the situation on the ground prior to the ceasefire. Such actions do not constitute a border change.
3) The Joint Statement and Thailand’s actions do not affect the border survey and demarcation process, which will continue to be carried out through mechanisms agreed upon by both sides, particularly the Joint Border Commission (JBC), as stated in point 3 of the Joint Statement.
4) Thailand adheres to international law and the peaceful resolution of issues.
Thailand’s actions are aimed at maintaining peace and order, ensuring public safety, and complying with existing agreements, and do not violate the sovereignty of any party.
5) Thailand is ready to move forward with constructive cooperation.
The Thai side remains committed to supporting de-escalation, confidence building, and problem-solving through existing bilateral mechanisms for lasting peace and stability along the border.
Thailand reaffirms its commitment to adhering strictly to the Joint Statement, supports a peaceful resolution of issues, and believes that respect for international agreements and law will lead to lasting peace, security, and well-being for the people of both countries.
