PM Anutin Orders Military Protection and Evacuations in Border Provinces

Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul has instructed the Armed Forces to protect Thailand’s sovereignty and ensure the safety of people living along the border, following armed clashes in the Phu Pha Lek – Phlan Hin Paet Kon area. The incident began when Cambodian forces opened fire, prompting the Second Army Region to respond in accordance with the rules of engagement.

Government Spokesperson Siripong Angkasakulkiat stated that the Prime Minister is closely monitoring the situation and has ordered the Ministry of Defence and the Armed Forces to take all necessary measures to secure the area and safeguard the public. He added that the Prime Minister instructed provincial governors to assist residents in evacuating to safe locations and to implement evacuation plans that have already been rehearsed.

The Government has urged residents in the border districts of four provinces—Buriram, Surin, Si Sa Ket, and Ubon Ratchathani—to relocate to designated evacuation centres for their safety, given the current uncertainty and the possibility of further escalation.
